Huntington Library Events: Healthy Eating, Piano Recital, Owls
From a seminar on healthy eating habits to start the new year to basic cross stitching, here are some events you can sign up for.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Huntington Public Library scheduled its first events for 2023. Here are some January workshops coming to the library at 338 Main St., Huntington.

Event: Starting the New Year with Healthy Eating
Location: Zoom
Date: Wednesday, Jan. 4
Time: 11 a.m.
Description: Stephanie Schiff, a registered dietitian, nutritionist and certified diabetes care and education specialist at Northwell Health's Huntington Hospital, will discuss nutrition and wellness goals for the New Year. Schiff has been a featured speaker on 1010 WINS and News 12 Long Island. This program is cosponsored by the public libraries in the Town of Huntington. Registration is required. Open to all.

Event: Winter Birds of Long Island: Owls
Location: Zoom
Date: Tuesday, Jan. 10
Time: 7 p.m.
Description: Those Wise Guys of LI … Owls!! Fascinating, mysterious, and beautiful! Owls are all these things, and we see many here on Long Island. Using lots of photos as well as fun and interesting facts, Dianne Taggart, a long time Long Island birder, will tell people all about these magnificent and wonderful birds. Registration is required. Open to all.
Event: Winter Weather Discussion with Islandwide Weather: Blizzards, Storms & More

Description: Please join weathermen Glen and Don of Facebook’s Islandwide Weather team for an in-depth discussion of what we can expect this winter and how we can best prepare for Winter 2022/23. Don and Glen have an extensive knowledge in the field and have been studying meteorology for a combination of over 40 years. Their daily routine of posting forecasts and severe weather systems when they impact Long Island has gained them more than 63,000 Facebook followers. Islandwide Weather LLC is now a “go-to” Facebook page for many Long Islanders and has become a reliable source for weather information of people’s daily lives. Registration is required. Open to all.

Event:Basic Cross Stitch
Location: Main Meeting Room
Date: Thursday, Jan. 12
Time: 7 p.m.
Description: Learn about traditional patterns found in clothing, tapestry, and home decor that have been stitched for centuries. Explore simple patterns custom made for beginners and follow instructions that are easy to understand. Attendees will cross stitch a Ukrainian rose pattern to keep. Registration required. Huntington Public Library cardholders only.
Event: Piano Recital with Christian Verfenstein
Location: Main Auditorium
Date: Sunday, Jan. 15
Time: 2 p.m.
Description: Christian Verfenstein began to play the piano at the age of 6 and has studied with several professors, including Young-Ah Tak at the Crane School of Music and Julian Martin at the Juilliard Pre-College. He has won numerous prizes, including First Prize in the Alexander & Buono International Piano Competition, First Prize in the North Shore Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and First Prize in the Crane Concerto Competition. Christian is currently auditioning for masters programs in piano performance. He will perform works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. Registration is required. Open to all.
