Huntington Native Recieves High Honor From The Obesity Society
The professor was recognized for making a difference in people's lives, especially children.

A Huntington native recently received one of the highest honors by The Obesity Society, which is the leading scientific society dedicated to the study of obesity.
Dr. Juliana Cohen, an assistant professor of health sciences at Merrimack College in Massachusetts, was named a fellow by The Obesity Society for her ongoing research and publications. Some of her work focuses on children's nutrition and the election and consumption of healthier options, especially for economically vulnerable children.
“It is a huge honor to be recognized by The Obesity Society,” Cohen, who has been a member of The Obesity Society since 2012, said in a press release. “It is truly rewarding to know that my research is making a difference in people’s lives, and that experts in the field are taking note of my contributions.”

The Obesity Society names fellows based on their superior contributions to the field of obesity research and prevention.
Cohen will also be highlighted on The Obesity Society’s website and through the Society’s weekly eNewsletter.

The Obesity Society says it has “a longstanding history of mutually beneficial partnerships with industry aligned on the common goals of furthering the understanding of obesity and positively impacting public health. Through these partnerships we have developed ongoing relationships that foster understanding of our varied roles in improving public health through science related to the prevention and treatment of obesity."
According to The Obesity Society, Cohen earned an Sc.D. in nutrition and an Sc.M. in society, human development, and health (maternal and child health concentration) from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and a B.A. in Italian studies from Emory University. Her teaching and research interests include community-based interventions, nutrition, health promotion, child/adolescent health and development, and health disparities. Cohen currently lives in Lexington, Mass.
