Huntington Opens Spray Parks Free To Residents During Heat Advisory

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington is opening two spray parks free of charge to residents this week as an early June heat advisory brings sweltering temperatures to the area.

Manor Field Park and Elwood spray parks will be open to Town of Huntington residents from noon to 6 p.m. on June 11, and June 12, weather permitting, town officials said. Proof of residency is required.

“Summer weather is coming a little early this year,” Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth said. “To help make the sweltering temperatures a little easier to handle, the Town will be opening our spray parks free of charge and a little earlier than usual to allow our residents with children a great spot to beat the heat.”

The spray parks will return to regular hours on Saturday, June 13, when a Town Recreation Card will again be required, officials said.

The town will also open the Flanagan Senior Center, at 423 Park Ave. in Huntington, as a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

Town beaches will also be open to residents only, with lifeguards stationed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Gold Star Battalion, Asharoken, Fleets Cove, Crab Meadow, West Neck, Hobart and Centerport beaches, officials said. All beaches close at 8 p.m.

Beach permits are required. Residents may register for a virtual beach permit at tohbeachpermit.com. Officials said vehicles that are not registered will be ticketed.

Beach parking in the La Casa Restaurant parking lot is not permitted, and violators may be towed, officials said.
