Huntington Police Blotter: Man Attacks Bicyclist, Pulls Knife

ALSO: Another man threw dirt and spit at an officer, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — These are recent arrests made in the Huntington area from April 5 through April 12.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Giancarlos Reyes, 22, of Wyandanch, scooped up dirt and threw it at a police officer's face and body, police said. While in custody, he spit on the officer's boot, police said. He was arrested in Huntington Station and charged with second-degree harassment: physical contact on April 10.
  • Brendan Scholander, 22, of Bennington, punched out the front window of a Huntington 7-Eleven and stole several items, police said. He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary: illegal entry w/ intent on April 7.
  • Darlyn Banegas-Cruz, 22, of Huntington Station, approached someone riding his bike on the corner of New York Avenue and Church Street, Huntington Station, at 11:55 p.m. April 4, police said. He pulled him off the bike by his shirt, punched him in the head, grabbed his neck and threatened him with a black knife, police said. The bicyclist was treated at Huntington Hospital for minor injuries. Banegas-Cruz was arrested and charged with third-degree assault w/ intent to cause physical injury on April 5.
