Huntington Police Blotter: Man Beaten Up Inside Tent In Robbery

ALSO: A woman was scammed by someone posing as an Amazon employee, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from Jan. 9 through Jan. 15.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Jan. 14: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Radcliff Drive in Huntington at 2:15 p.m. Jewelry was reported missing from a home, police said.
  • Jan. 14: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Chichester Road in South Huntington at 11:30 a.m. Someone received a text from someone claiming to be from Amazon, police said. The message said the woman had a fraudulent charge on her account, and in order to get the charge removed, she needed to buy Target and Apple gift cards, police said. The woman purchased the gift cards and was scammed, police said.
  • Jan. 11: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Crombie Street in Huntington Station at 2:30 p.m. Money was reported missing from a home, police said.
  • Jan. 9: Robbery (first-degree) was reported on Wall Street in Halesite at 6:13 p.m. A man was in a tent in the woods when someone came up to the tent and began hitting him through the tent with a hammer, police said. The man was beaten up, and his baseball hat, sneakers, and a bag of gemstones were stolen from him, police said.
  • Jan. 9: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Oakwood Road in Huntington Station at noon. Someone used a fraudulent check to steal money from someone else's account, police said.
