South Huntington Student is Local Winner of 'Be Pool Smart' Poster Contest
Oakwood primary student honored by Leg. D'Amaro.
A second-grader from the South Huntington School District was recently named the local winner of this year’s Suffolk County “Be Pool Smart” poster contest.
Jeremiah Person Gunter was honored by Suffolk Leg. Lou D’Amaro (D-Huntington Station) at Oakwood Primary Center as the local winner.
Established in 2007, the annual competition invites elementary school students to promote the importance of pool safety and prevent accidental drowning by creating a poster that illustrates one or more safety tips.

Each contest participant received a Certificate of Distinguished Achievement and Jeremiah, a Huntington Station resident whose entry was selected as the overall local winner, was awarded a special Suffolk County Proclamation from D’Amaro. He was joined by some of his fellow students and teachers at the presentation ceremony.
“Once again, the ‘Be Pool Smart’ poster contest drew many wonderful entries, but Jeremiah’s stood out because of its creativity,” D’Amaro said. “I am pleased to recognize Jeremiah for his winning entry and thank all of the contest participants for helping to spread the important message of pool safety.”
