Huntington Station Resident Gives Insight on Millennials to Suffolk Legislature

Even the Suffolk County government knows the importance of millennials.

Huntington Station resident Andrea Bonilla was chosen to serve as a representative on the newly-established Suffolk County Next Generation Advisory Council.

The Next Generation Advisory Council is meant to have the county’s top young minds offer insight and assistance in creative legislative initiatives and programs to help keep millennials living and working in Suffolk County. The council was unanimously passed by the Suffolk County Legislature in 2016.

Each Suffolk County Legislator appointed one resident aged 22 to 35. Legislator Lou D’Amaro selected Bonilla.

“While many millennials are leaving Long Island, especially after graduating from college, Ms. Bonilla came home and immediately began giving back to the community she loved,” D’Amaro said in a press release. “Her hard work and dedication are clearly inspiring. Suffolk County is fortunate to benefit from Ms. Bonilla’s leadership and enthusiasm as we craft solutions to keep young people engaged and rooted here.”

Bonilla is a Walt Whitman High School alum who graduated from Brown University in Providence, RI. She has been active in the Huntington Station community for about four years, assisting on revitalization efforts as Community Liaison at Source the Station.

She also donates her time to local organizations such as the Townwide Fund of Huntington (board member), Long Island Visual Professionals Advisory Board, Town of Huntington Hispanic Task Force, Huntington Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Huntington Station Latin Quarter (vice president) and Long Island Social Media Association (board member).

The council meets quarterly and will submit an annual advisory report on the “State of Long Island’s Next Generation” to the Legislature.
