HUNTINGTON, NY — Members of Truth Triangle no.31 gathered at Jephtha Masonic Lodge in Huntington to participate in a special photography class, the youth organization announced.

The event was coordinated by Beloved Queen Sophia TenClay (the organization’s term for chapter president) and conducted by Drew MacCallum. MacCallum is the senior manager of Camera Product Planning for Canon USA and a member of Jephtha Lodge no. 494, with more than 20 years of experience in the photo industry as a photographer, educator, and adviser.

Members learned about changes and advancements that have happened in the industry since the coronavirus pandemic, including the use of remotely operated drone technology and robots to cover major sporting events.

MacCallum showcased several images from his own portfolio to demonstrate how staging, preparation and composition can turn common images into exceptional works of art. They explored the use of light and dark to draw attention to important aspects of a photo as well as the importance of focus and lighting.

The girls were then given a hands-on experience with professional-grade Canon cameras. After a tutorial on the proper use of the cameras and settings, they were invited to test their newfound understandings of composition, exposure and filters while photographing each other and elements around the room with a reminder to always look for extraordinary details in ordinary places. They were also given tips and tricks about posture and poise in order to pose for professional headshots.

The evening ended with the girls printing their favorite photos to keep as a memento of the
class.

TenClay presented MacCallum with a special Certificate of Appreciation from Truth Triangle as a thank you for his "unwavering support" of the organization and willingness to share his talents to teach a new generation of photographers.

Truth Triangle was chartered in September 1927 and has had more than 180 youth leaders since that time. They meet on the first and third Friday of every month except for July and August at Jephtha Masonic Lodge, located at 342 New York Ave., Huntington. Leaders hold six-month terms of office.

Members take part in various monthly meetings, visitations and activities that help teach skills in public speaking, fundraising, running a board meeting, keeping financial records, and more.
