Event: "Long Island Joins The Space Race": Film Screening & Discussion with Filmmaker Glenn Andreiev

Description: The Lunar Module that transported two astronauts to the moon in July 1969 was built right here at Grumman in Bethpage. This feature length documentary tells of the engineers and the then primitive technology they used to create this most fantastic voyage. Filmmaker Glenn Andreiev, whose father was part of the Lunar Module team, uses rare archival footage as well as interviews with Apollo engineers to bring us along on the voyage to the moon. Featuring a music score by Moontide. A discussion with the filmmaker will follow the screening. Registration required and open to all.

Description: Be a part of an afternoon book discussion with David Baron, a science writer, eclipse chaser, and volunteer eclipse expert with STAR Net's Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries (SEAL) Community. David will join us on Zoom to discuss his book American Eclipse, a narrative history that tells the true story of a total eclipse that crossed the American frontier in 1878 and inspired our country’s rise as a scientific power. It’s a tale of the Wild West and Gilded Age, featuring a young Thomas Edison — who traveled to Wyoming for the eclipse — and the pioneering Vassar College astronomer Maria Mitchell, who led an all-female eclipse expedition to Denver to show what women could do in science. Copies of the book will be available for checkout at the library's Customer Services Desk. Registration required. Open to all.

Description: Argentine tango is more than a dance. It is a connection to self, partner, music, and the moment. The tango is a partner dance where individuals can communicate without words.
