Kahulanui - 50th Huntington Summer Arts Festival
Chapin Rainbow Stage in Heckscher Park, Huntington. Produced by the Town of Huntington, presented by the Huntington Arts Council.

Saturday, July 4 – Kahulanui stands for “The Big Dance” and features Hawaiian swing music. Lolena Naipo Jr serves as the band leader as she remembers stories of his grandfather. His grandfather took part in the Royal Hawaiian Band and Kahulanui uses those influences to perform classic Hawaiian songs. They use horns and drums in their orchestra like they were used in the 1920s and 1930s to make a syncopated style. Their created style makes the Hawaiian Swing music come to life and celebrates the vibrant form that is presented in Hawaii today.
Kahulanui is made up of a core group called the “core four”. Patrick Eskildsen plays the electric bass as the lead guitarist with vocals and Duke Tatom plays the ukulele and vocals. Tim Taylor is featured on the drums/percussion and lastly, Lena Naipo is the lead vocalist and guitar. All these individuals display such talent, that when they are together as an ensemble it is quite impressive.
Concert begins at 8:30 PM
