Last Chance: Mara Einstein Speaks

Huntington High School graduate and author discusses new book at Book Revue Monday.

We've seen hundreds of events come and go in the community, but how often does one pass you by that you wish you hadn't missed out on? That's where we come in. Each week Huntington Patch will post a quick reminder about the events, activities or important tasks whose deadlines have come.

Mara Einstein, a 1977 graduate of Huntington High School, will speak about her book "Compassion, Inc." at the  beginning at 7 p.m. Monday.

"Cause-related marketing has skyrocketed. Whether we’re being encouraged to walk for or donate to breast cancer with Avon, buy Nike’s Livestrong bracelets, or shop on sites like igive.com, it’s tough to go through a day without some corporation tugging at our heartstrings to buy for a cause," said Eienstein to Patch. "If corporations are getting people to think beyond their own needs and contribute to good work, it’s win-win, right? Wrong, is my answer in this controversial look at feel-good marketing."

Einstein said she is happy to be speaking in Huntington, a place her family has lived for 80 years.
