Local DAR Chapter Celebrates 112th Anniversary

Ketewamoke Chapter Honor Their Founding Members

112 years old and going strong, Ketewamoke Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution hosted their January meeting in honor of the Huntington women who organized their chapter in 1907. This chapter, one of the oldest in the state, received their charter on January 11, 1908. In 1914, the chapter purchased their 1837 chapter house at 6 Nassau Road, once a Universalist Church. The house is still owned by the chapter and is the official meeting place of the chapter membership.

The day included a luncheon, a lecture on Organizing Chapter Regent, Maud Allen Klots and an early history of the chapter, followed by an opportunity to inspect the Chapter's historic archives, including newspaper articles, scrapbooks and photographs. Six new members were inducted at the meeting, bringing the total membership to 113.

Continuing the spirit of service that the DAR is known for, chapter members collected 215 books for Books For Veterans, a non-profit organization that ships books to deployed members of the United States Armed Forces, and to patients at VA Medical Centers.
