Local Food Companies and Growers Spread Holiday Cheer
Locally grown food farms and companies team up to make this Thanksgiving a special holiday for those in need.

Thanksgiving just became a happier holiday for hundreds of Hunts Point families thanks to a special meal donation sponsored by Baldor Specialty Foods, which included contributions from locally grown food provider Satur Farms, Tanimura & Antle, Red Jacket Orchards, Krasdale, and Bolthouse Farms.
In cooperation with the Bronx Community Board #2 and The Point Community Development Center, Baldor Specialty Foods, one of the Northeast’s leading distributors of fresh produce, provided Thanksgiving meals to its Hunts Point neighbors, that were distributed at a community event on Saturday, Nov. 18.
Baldor prepared some 500 meal boxes filled with all the fixings a family of four needs to enjoy a delicious and nutritious Thanksgiving dinner. The meal boxes, which were packed by Baldor employee volunteers, included a large turkey, fruits and vegetables, dinner rolls, milk, juice and a dessert.

Half of Hunts Point residents live below the poverty line. It’s also where Baldor’s corporate headquarters and warehouse facility are housed. Baldor’s CEO, TJ Murphy said, “Baldor’s a family company. We’ve always considered our employees and neighbors part of the family. Thanksgiving is all about the joy of sharing food with family, and that’s exactly what this event is all about.” Paulette Satur, whose family-owned farm grows fresh, locally grown food said, “Satur Farms is pleased to make its locally-grown fresh greens available to families in Hunts Point. We hope our contribution helps to make their Thanksgiving tables nutritious, delicious, and joyful!”
