Long Island Forecast: Snow Promises to Make Mess of Monday Commute

Buckle up for a slippery ride Monday morning. Check out the latest forecast.

Snow will pick up in intensity as Sunday night progresses, which means Long Islanders will wake up on the second day of spring with several inches of the white stuff on the ground.

Here are the latest details on the storm:

  • A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for Nassau County and western Suffolk County. A total of 2-6 inches of snow is likely in those areas, with the lowest amounts expected in Nassau, the National Weather Service says.
  • A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for eastern Suffolk County (east of the William Floyd Parkway). A total of 4-6 inches of snow is expected for that most of that area. Montauk and the extreme South Fork could see up to 8 inches.
  • The snow will taper off from southwest to northeast Monday morning. It will likely not end until mid-morning on Long Island so the rush hour commute may be a mess.
