South Huntington Teacher of the Year Recognized at Board Meeting
2016 honorees include special education, dual-language instructors; retiring band leader

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R,C,I – South Huntington) saluted the South Huntington School District’s Teachers of the Year, who were honored at the school district’s Board of Education meeting on February 10.
The honorees include: Countrywood Primary Center first grade dual-language teacher Sandra Layer; Oakwood Primary Center ESL teacher Elisabete Sousa; Maplewood Intermediate School psychologist Dr. Kristine Duffy; Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center teacher Dr. Gay Bullock; Henry L. Stimson special education teacher Kelly Poller; and Walt Whitman High School music teacher and band leader Allan Deitz.

Kim Schiermbock, a special-education teacher at Birchwood Intermediate School, was honored as the South Huntington School District’s Teacher of the Year.
“These outstanding educators represent the best and brightest of a long tradition of excellence in New York State public schools,” Lupinacci, an alumnus of Walt Whitman High School who previously served as a Trustee on the South Huntington Board of Education, said. “It is a privilege to recognize a group of talented, gifted professionals who give so much to their students every day.”
