Assemblymen Chad Lupinacci (R,C,WF,I-Huntington Station) and Andrew Raia (R,I,C-East Northport) recently hosted a mock press conference. The event included dozens of students from several Suffolk County high schools with an interest in journalism, media and government operations. Students were provided the opportunity to take pictures, ask questions and interact as if it were a real press conference.
“The mock press conference was an incredible opportunity to put young journalists in the seats of real reporters and give them a real-world, on-the-job training,” said Lupinacci. “All the students asked tremendous questions and were incredibly prepared to ‘do the job.’ After taking part in the event, I can say that the future of journalism looks bright. Who knows, we may have had the next Walter Cronkite or Robin Roberts in the audience.”
“I must admit, I was very impressed by the young men and women that attended this year's mock press conference. Asking pointed questions, many displayed a talent well beyond their years,” said Raia. “Programs like these are critical for high school students on the fence about what they may want to study in college or even get a jump start with some on-the-job training.”
The event included students from Deer Park High School, Huntington High School, John Glenn High School, Northport High School and Half Hollow Hills High School West.
