Lupinacci Sets His Sights On Learning For Work Program

Learning For Work

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) recently visited St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue to deliver the keynote address during their 7th Annual Human Resources and Diversity Summit. At the conference, local business leaders, educators and students were able to learn more about Lupinacci’s proposed legislation for the future of education, jobs and growing the economy

Lupinacci focused on his Learning for Work program, which he introduced during the 2015-2016 Legislative Session. The bill would enable students to pursue career targeted education while in high school and graduate high school with a certification in a trade-field. Supporters of this legislation tout that qualitative and on-site job experience while in high school may lead to stable, well-paying jobs in emerging sectors of the economy.

“Economists project that the trade fields will have the highest demand for employees until 2022,” Lupinacci said. “The Learning for Work program will allow high school students to learn a trade, develop valuable experience and earn a high-school diploma. This program is a win-win for local business owners as well, as they gain not only a valuable employee, but may also receive up to $1,500 in tax credits for taking part in this program.”

“This program feeds our workforce, helps small-business owners and expands opportunity for a well-paying and stable job throughout the state. I look forward to fighting for this legislation’s passage during this upcoming Legislative Session,” said Lupinacci.
