Lupinacci Supports Career-Focused Diploma for NYS High Schools

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I – South Huntington) supports CTE legislation.

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I – South Huntington) today announced that he is co-sponsoring legislation to establish a career and technical education (CTE) diploma for high school students in New York State. This bill would potentially fill the shortage of skilled technical workers in several trades.

“As college tuitions increase, I encourage students who are eager to learn a trade and find employment to pursue a CTE diploma. Our communities need smart and trustworthy welders, chefs, mechanics, and electricians to replace the aging baby-boomer workers,” said Lupinacci, the Ranking Minority Member on the Committee on Higher Education.

A CTE diploma would create a new pathway for students to graduate from high school by incorporating career-focused education and curriculums into school programs. This would create more technical workers in the manufacturing industries in New York State. It would also encourage students to pursue careers in welding, culinary, green energy, health services, mechanical technology, computer systems and networking and eventually advance to a two-year institution.

“The CTE diploma would be a great way to keep our communities moving forward by preparing our youth to fill vital roles in the manufacturing industries and various other technical professions. It’s important to encourage young adults with interest in these trades to pursue this very noble degree.
