Man Indicted In Fatal Suffolk Hit-And-Run: DA

The driver fled after striking a man and then scrapped the damaged parts of his car for cash, DA Tierney says.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — The man accused of leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash in Huntington Station in August was indicted, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said Friday.

Prosecutors said Kevin Galloway, 53, of Holtsville, kept driving after he struck Natividad Interiano, 48, of Huntington Station, on Aug. 27, police said. Interiano died at the scene.

"This defendant cared more about evading responsibility for his criminal actions than rendering aid to the man he allegedly struck and killed crossing the road," Tierney said in a news release. "Pedestrians have the right to walk the streets in Suffolk County without having to worry that they are going to get struck by a vehicle and left to die. My office will seek whatever small measure of justice we can for Mr. Interiano and his loved ones."

Video footage showed Galloway, who was driving eastbound in his black 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, strike Interiano as he was crossing the intersection on East Pulaski Road in Huntington Station at 9:10 p.m., authorities said.

Galloway continued driving east on East Pulaski Road, where another video surveillance camera captured him entering a BP Gas Station on Park Avenue in Huntington Station, officials said. He inspected the front of his Chevrolet and pushed the left headlight back into the car before driving away, investigators said.

Galloway on Aug. 28 replaced the hood, grill and rims of his Chevrolet in an effort to evade law enforcement, officials said. The next day, Galloway took the damaged parts of the car to Gershow Recycling in Medford to be scrapped for cash, prosecutors said. Galloway was arrested on Sept. 1, the DA said.

Galloway was arraigned on charges of one count of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Galloway was ordered held on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or $1 million partially secured bond. His license was suspended while his case pends. He is due back in court on Oct. 11. He is being represented by Eric Besso.
