Melville Woman, 66, Killed In Accident, Police Investigating

A Melville woman was killed after the vehicle she was driving in Melville left the roadway and struck a brick mailbox pillar, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — A 66-year-old Melville woman was killed in a single-car accident Thursday morning, Suffolk County Police announced. Carmela Baselice, 66, was driving a 2006 Hummer eastbound on Old Country Road when the car veered off the roadway and struck a brick mailbox pillar in front of 96 Old Country Road shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday. Baselice was pronounced dead on the scene. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

There were not further details at this time as Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information about the accident is being asked to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
