New Principal Appointed At Thomas J. Lahey Elementary In Harborfields

GREENLAWN, NY — Jennifer Washington was recently appointed by the Harborfields Central School District as principal of Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School, the district announced.

"Washington has been a vital Harborfields educator for 17 years, serving the last two as the director of technology and security systems," the district wrote.

She started at Harborfields as a teaching assistant at Oldfield Middle School; transitioned to an integrated teacher at TJL, where she spent 11 years working as a special education teacher; and served as the supervisor for the extended school year program and as the district’s technology coordinator.

In 2017 and 2019, she was chosen as a presenter at the Long Island Technology Education Summit, a yearly event for sharing new ideas, innovations and trends, and her work on Books Clubs
for the 21st Century won the Model Schools Award in 2018.

A Greenlawn resident, Washington earned her bachelor’s degree in television/radio with a concentration in advertising/public relations from Ithaca College, a master’s degree in special education from Dowling College and her building leader and district level certifications from Stony Brook University.
