About the Candidates
Stern, an attorney specializing in elder law, has represented the 10th Assembly District since winning a special election in April 2018. He previously served six terms in the Suffolk County Legislature and currently chairs the New York State Assembly's Veterans' Affairs Committee. His legislative priorities have included property tax relief, clean water infrastructure, public safety and expanded services for veterans.
Stern has advocated for expanding STAR property tax exemptions to benefit first-time homebuyers and seniors, continuing sewer expansion and securing funding for a community center at the former state armory in Huntington Station. He has also emphasized efforts to prevent veteran suicides.
LeGrow, 46, of Huntington, is seeking election to the State Assembly on the Republican and Conservative Party lines. She is challenging Stern for the seat he has held since 2018. Detailed information about her campaign priorities was not available in the public sources reviewed before Election Day.
