Police ID Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Greenlawn Crash

The man was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a vehicle Thursday night, police say.

UPDATED Wednesday at 4:35 p.m.:

Police identified Vicenzo Gravinese, 63, of Melville, as the pedestrian seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle Thursday, Dec. 1 in Greenlawn.

According to authorities, Gravinese was attempting to cross Clay Pitts Road, across the street from St. Francis of Assisi Church, when a 2012 Honda Odyssey traveling eastbound hit him at 9:08 p.m.

Gravinese was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital from the church parking lot to be treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda, a 54-year-old Greenlawn woman, remained at the scene and was not injured from the crash.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.

The Greenlawn Fire Department responded to the crash with an ambulance, truck and paramedic units. All units were under the direction of Chief Mike Bellis and Assistant Chiefs Joe Costanza and Angelo Santomauro.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
