Saint Anthony's High School Cancels Classes Due To Coronavirus

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY — Saint Anthony's High School has cancelled its classes on Thursday and Friday this week due to the new coronavirus, Brother David Migliorino, the principal, wrote to parents, faculty and staff in a Wednesday letter.

A student's grandfather, who lives with the student, tested positive for COVID-19 and has been hospitalized, Migliorino said. One of the school's students has also displayed symptoms and has been tested for the coronavirus, though the results are pending, according to Migliorino.

During the two-day closure, the building will be cleaned and sanitized. In addition, all school and sporting events will be cancelled Thursday through Sunday.

Students and faculty will be contacted with a plan about next week once the school has further information, Migliorino said. If the school needs to enact its virtual learning plan, students will be able to go to the building to collect their books. More information will be sent over the weekend.

Migliorino has been communicating with the Suffolk County Health Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention every day, and the principal said the departments are very supportive of the school's approach.

"We appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented and challenging situation," Migliorino said. "Let us continue to pray for the safety and well-being of our Saint Anthony's family."
