Sheriff's Deputies Oversee PR Scilla Eviction

Furnishings, fittings and dress forms were carried out of the bridal shop Wednesday on to a U-Haul truck.

The presence of both a moving truck and a Suffolk County Sheriff's Department vehicle in front of a single address usually means only one thing: eviction.

Apparently this was true once again, this time in the case of PR Scilla, a woman's clothing boutique that specialized in bridal dresses and mother-of-the-bride and -groom dresses, located at 300 New York Avenue in Huntington Village for almost 15 years.

At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, not just one but three sheriff's vehicles and two trucks were in front of the shop as store furnishings, racks, hangers and fittings were carried in to a U-Haul truck parked out front by several movers.

One sheriff confirmed that they were carrying out a court order or warrant to vacate the premises awarded to property owner, Aloe-Alviano, Co. of Dix Hills, but could not elaborate. Huntington Patch could not locate a phone number for Aloe-Alviano, Co. Property taxes for the current year are $13,394.72, according to town records. The property owners are not currently in arrears.

The procedures for eviction required by the court of District Court of Suffolk County are to fill out a petition and a notice of petition and to file that with the court clerk. A court date is set and the tenant and landlord or a representative is required to appear for a summary proceeding. If the tenant is found to have a non-payment of rent, a warrant of eviction if issued.

The Suffolk County Sheriff's office is then required to give 72 hours notice in writing before the eviction. After 72 hours, if the rent is not paid, the Sheriff will return and remove the tenant and personal property.

Huntington Patch will attempt to reach owner Priscilla Schavran to find out if the store will relocate or where those who may have had bridal dresses ordered through or from the store can turn for more information. Calls to the store Wednesday would not go through.
