South Huntington Cancels All Weekend Activities As Nor'easter Approaches
The cancellations include sports, practices, marching band competitions and other district-sponsored events Saturday and Sunday.
SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY — The South Huntington School District has canceled all school-related activities scheduled for this weekend as an early-season nor’easter brings rain and strong winds to Long Island.
All activities, practices and sporting events scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27, have been canceled, Superintendent Vito M. D'Elia said Friday afternoon.
The cancellation applies to events both on and off district property, including athletic competitions, marching band competitions and other district-sponsored activities.

“We encourage all South Huntington residents, students, and families to exercise caution throughout the weekend,” D'Elia said in a message to the school community.
The National Weather Service said an early-season nor’easter is expected to bring a prolonged period of gusty winds and rainfall to the region. A Wind Advisory is in effect for Long Island through 6 a.m. Sunday.

The district expects students and staff to return to schools next week as scheduled.
