South Huntington Schools' Car Parade Rescheduled

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY — The staff and faculty of Countrywood Primary School and Maplewood Intermediate School, of the South Huntington School District, are organizing a car parade in which faculty members drive past homes to wave to the students they've missed the past few weeks, according to the district. Long Island schools have been closed due to the new coronavirus.

The parade kicks off 12:30 p.m. Monday. It had originally been scheduled for Friday.

Starting at Countrywood, the parade will go throughout the district and pass by Board President Nicholas Ciappetta’s house. The parade will end at the James Kaden Administrative Offices. Over 100 teachers and staff members from the two schools will ride a firetruck from the Huntington Manor Fire Department.

"This is a very exciting and highly anticipated event, as students and teachers will have the opportunity to see each other while practicing social distancing," the district said in a news release.

Countrywood is at 499 Old Country Road, Huntington Station, while the James Kaden Administrative Offices are at 60 Weston St., Huntington Station.

Participants are all encouraged to practice social distancing; wave from your front door, window, porch or lawn. Homemade signs are encouraged.

"Please, and we can not stress this enough, DO NOT congregate with your neighbors and friends," the school said.
