SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Following an unprecedented surge in early voting nationwide that saw record numbers in some states, Suffolk County residents flooded the polls on Election Day to cast their ballots in an election that's shaping up to be a referendum on President Donald Trump's first term as president. Long Islanders cast ballots for both state and federal elections, including Congress, New York Assembly and state Senate.

All 150 seats in the New York Assembly were up for election in 2020. In Suffolk County, Democrat incumbents hold four seats, Republicans hold three, the Independence Party holds one, and four will have a vacancy filled by the election winner. Of those four, all are or were previously held by Republicans.
