Sundae Donuts Of Long Island Offers 'Outside The Box' Confections

Donuts are used in "pretty much everything" served up at Sundae Donuts from ice cream to milkshakes, says owner Michelle Tadross.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Michelle Tadross came up with the idea of Sundae Donuts thanks to her many trips out to Montauk as a child.

"I just kind of thought a couple of years ago, pre-COVID, that Montauk really needed a fun donut shop with ice cream," Tadross told Patch.

Having gone to Montauk as a child, and now with a kid of her own, Tadross wanted to keep the tradition of visits to the East End. She opened her first Sundae Donuts shop in Montauk and has opened a handful more since; including one in Huntington, which Tadross considers the franchise's "home base."

Sundae Donuts opened at 377 New York Ave., Huntington, in December, near The Paramount.

Donuts offered at the shop include S'mores, Chocolate Oreo, Fruity Pebbles, Galaxy, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and plenty of classics.

The store's "cool vibe" helps Sundae Donuts stand out, Tadross said. Additionally, all the ice cream served at the shop is infused with donuts. The milkshakes and donut sandwiches also include the pastry the shop is built around.

"We just try to really think outside of the box and use donuts in pretty much everything we serve," Tadross said. "With a milkshake, you get a little mini donut on the straw. We really try to incorporate donuts into everything.”

The least expensive donut — glazed — runs at $2.50, while a dozen donuts cost $45, according to Tadross. The donuts are pretty large though, she said.

"We stuff them if it’s Nutella or jelly or Boston cream, it’s literally stuffed to the max. The donuts are extremely heavy. We get extremely creative with them. Some are very high. We have syringes with Nutella on some of them. They’re not your average donut. They’re big and outside the box. We’ve got a lot of great flavors.”

The 2,500-square foot building allows the Huntington location to house kids' birthday parties and corporate events.

The shop is set to launch the Sundae Donut Experience: A four-day camp where people can go in and be taught how to make ice cream and donuts, make tye-dye shirts, and more. Sundae Donuts also offers activities and mini-camps set around the academic calendar.

"Our Huntington store is definitely an awesome vibe and one of the larger square-footage stores that we have," Tadross said. "We have the capability of doing a lot more things in that store than we do in others.”

Ice cream and milkshakes, like the donuts, are sold in-store.

Sundae Donuts also has a Long Island location in Montauk with two more coming soon to Manhasset and East Norwich.
