  1. A luxury dog hotel is opening a second location on LI in Syosset. K9 Resorts calls itself the "Ritz Carlton of dog hotels." K9 Resorts features many amenities for pampering pooches while their owners are away. The facility features premium bedding for dogs, Microban antibacterial built into the floor, an air purification system and more." K9 Resorts opens Saturday and a grand opening event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Patch)
  2. TheHuntington superintendent announces retirement with "mixed emotions." Jim Polansky is retiring after 33 years in the education sector and explained how he feels in a letter to the Huntington School Board. "After considerable soul-searching, I have determined that it is time for me to transition into the next stage," Polansky wrote. "This comes with equal parts excitement and sorrow, the latter primarily because the Huntington School District community has been a major part of my life for the past 12 years." (Huntington Patch)
  3. Two men wanted for stealing from Syosset school on July 9. Surveillance photos show the men stealing four laptops, four iPads, and four CD players from Kiddie Academy on Ira Road. The items are worth more than $17,000 (News 12 Connecticut)
  4. A man is wanted in connection to a Commack identity theft. The man used a person's stolen identity for an ATM withdrawal at 7-Eleven at 2045 Jericho Turnpike, on Dec. 16. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-221-TIPS. (Patch)

  • Halesite Fire Department: The fire department will be holding a Super Bowl Sunday Pancake Breakfast. It will be on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Halesite Firehouse from 9 a.m. to noon. (Halesite Fire Department via Facebook)

  • Town of Huntington: "Supervisor Ed Smyth, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps himself, is proposing a new and exciting initiative, "Valentines for Veterans." Huntington will honor the military service of our resident Veterans with "Thank you Valentine Cards" all created by the students at our fine school districts and any member of the Huntington community wishing to show their appreciation."
