Thousands Attend John Kasich Town Hall Event in Huntington
Many Long Islanders, both Democrat and Republican, came out to see what Ohio Gov. John Kasich had to say.
A long line of people waited outside in the rain to attend a Town Hall event in Huntington on Monday evening to see what Ohio Gov. and Republican presidential candidate John Kasich could offer the people of Long Island if he were elected President.
In fact, many people waiting outside didn't get inside The Paramount venue as the event was overbooked.
Thousands of Long Islanders, both Democrat and Republican, were in attendance. Some were protesters, while others were some of Kasich's biggest supporters. Here are both ends of the spectrum:
Ohio Gov. and Republican presidential candidate stepped on stage at approximatley 6 p.m. He spoke about his upbringing, meeting President Nixon as a college freshman and answered questions from a few people in the audience.
Here are a few notable Kasich quotes from Monday evening:
- "I happen to be a Republican, but the Republican Party is my vehicle and not my master. The only person who tells me what to do is my wife."
- "I'll let you in on a dirty little secret. The Democrats love to spend money and so do the Republicans; they just feel guilty when they do it."
- "I'm not a marshmallow or a pin cushion. If you want to take a whack at me, let's get it on. Nobody is going to to push me around in this campaign or anywhere else."
- "I can promise you that within the first 100 days, we will have a system that puts a freeze on all federal regulations except for health and safety so we stop crushing small business. I can tell you we're going to have lower taxes on businesses so they'll invest in America and not in Europe."
- "If you spend your time down here, how are you going to get anything done? So I'd rather do it in a positive, upbeat lane while giving people hope."
- "In ten contested conventions, only three times did the frontrunner get picked."
- "Our young people are going to spend less time on Justin Bieber and more time wondering how we pick a president."
