Top Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Happy Earth Day!

Here are some ways to commemorate the day:

 1. Plant trees! Earth Day is close to U.S. Arbor Day (April 26), and over time Earth Day has taken on the role of tree-planting. Planting trees helps decreases greenhouse gas emissions, cleans pollution, locks soil in place to prevent erosion, and provides homes for a lot of biodiversity. Just one mature tree can produce up to 260 pounds (118 kg) of oxygen and remove harmful ozone pollutants from the lower atmosphere.

2. Install Drip Irrigation Drip irrigation combined with Fertigation would be ideal for water savings and best use for fertilizer. Drip systems are more efficient than conventional sprinklers because they deliver low volumes of water directly to plants' roots, minimizing water lost to wind, runoff, evaporation or overspray. Consider installing drip around trees, shrubs and gardens in place of a conventional sprinkler system!

3. Ride your bike! Get some fresh air, exercise and use your bike to commute to work or school and to run errands.

4. Clean up litter! It can be as simple as walking down your street and picking up litter. Create a group or gather a bunch of friends and start a community project. Clean up a local beach! Another great event if you are interested in living a more sustainable and healthier life is The New York City Green Festival.

5. Buy or make Earth-friendly products.  Create your own natural cleaners! Try making up a simple vinegar-and-water counter cleaner, or swapping out your cleaner for a less-toxic orange-based one.  When treating your lawn, use Rain Rich Environmentally Safe fertigation.

6. Learn more about the environment! Earth Day is a wonderful time to learn more about the environment and how you can help to protect it. Learn more about issues such as pollution, endangered species , water shortages, recycling, and climate change.  Another excellent site is www.350.org.
