Town of Huntington Offers Free HART Bus Fare for 2 Weeks
Car Free Day is Sept. 22. How will you get to work?

The Town of Huntington will offer residents free HART (Huntington Area Rapid Transit) bus fare for two weeks this month to encourage alternative modes of transportation.
There will be no fare charged on HART’s fixed bus routes during the following dates:
- Monday, Sept. 21 to Saturday, Sept. 26
- Monday, Sept. 28 to Saturday, Oct. 3
This promotion is being held in coordination with International Car Free Day on Sept. 22. This worldwide event, which takes place in over 1,500 cities in 40 countries, encourages people to use alternative modes of transportation like transit, biking and carpooling.

“Each year, we encourage residents to give up their car for a day and find other ways to get around,” Councilman Mark Cuthbertson said in a statement. “We hope that this year, people will hop on a HART bus and, if they like the experience, tell their friends.”

HART, the only town-operated bus system on Long Island, hopes to increase its ridership through this promotion.
This year, HART upgraded its fleet by adding 15 new vehicles, including seven 20-passenger clean diesel buses. HART also has three hybrid buses that are used for the fixed-route service.
The free rides are available only on fixed route service. Paratransit is unaffected by the promotion. For more information on routes and schedules, visit the HART Bus page on the Town’s website. Residents can also download a system route map here.
