Tulip Festival at Heckscher Park Entertainment Lineup

Expect plenty of dancing and singing around the event's main attraction: tulips.

Come for the tulips, stay for the entertainment.

Town of Huntington’s upcoming 16th Annual Tulip Festival will have thousands of tulips but there will be plenty of music and dancing as well.

Here’s the full entertainment lineup for the Tulip Festival, which will be held at Heckscher Park on Sunday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Museum exhibits will be open until 5:00 p.m:

“Jazzy Fairy Tales” with Louise Rogers

  • 12-12:45 p.m. at Chapin Rainbow Stage
  • This interactive performance combines jazz music, storytelling and improvisational theater techniques to teach young children music, literature and social skills. Recording artist and music teacher Louise Rogers’ voice has been described as “pure and incandescent, free of affectation or obvious influence” by Christopher Loudon at Jazz Times. This performance is presented by the Huntington Arts Council and sponsored by Cablevision”

“Casplash” – Caribbean splash band with Steelpanist Rudi Crichlow

  • 1-1:45 p.m. at Chapin Rainbow Stage
  • This music, of steel pan, soulful singing and hot tropical rhythm, is made for dancing. The band leads audiences in familiar dances such as the Electric Slide, Hokey Pokey, Conga Line and Limbo and also teaches a traditional West Indian follow-the-leader style dance called "Brown Girl in the Ring." Casplash is founded and led by Steelpanist Rudy Crichlow, who has roots in Trinidad and Tobago. This performance is presented by the Huntington Arts Council and sponsored by Astoria Bank.

“Songs & Puppetry” with Janice Buckner

  • 2-3 p.m. at Chapin Rainbow Stage
  • Janice, who is considered one of the nation's top performing artists for children, entertains audiences of all ages with her voice, guitars, puppets and sign language. Her "Learn Along Song Series" includes 11 CDs and songbooks and her "Creativity in the Classroom Work/Play Book" with a 20-song CD is used by pre-K and elementary school teachers throughout the country. This performance is presented by the Huntington Arts Council and sponsored by Huntington Honda.
