VIDEO: Massive Sinkhole Opens On LIE In Melville, 2 Lanes Closed: Police

MELVILLE, NY — Two westbound lanes on the Long Island Expressway were shut down Thursday after a large sinkhole opened near Exit 49N, Suffolk County police said.
The right and center lanes of the westbound LIE were closed as emergency crews and highway workers responded to the scene.
According to police, the sinkhole measures approximately 10 feet in diameter and 8 feet deep.

Officials said the lane closures are expected to remain in place for at least 24 hours while crews assess the damage and begin repairs.
Drivers traveling through the area were urged to expect heavy delays and seek alternate routes.

No injuries were reported.
Video circulating on social media appeared to show at least one white vehicle partially trapped inside or directly adjacent to the sinkhole as police and construction crews responded to the scene
