Volunteers Clean Up in the Station

Latin Quarter organization clears debris to improve New York Avenue.

Friends of Huntington Station Latin Quarter were busy Saturday weeding, sweeping and clearing litter on several blocks of New York Avenue. Youngsters and adults worked intently to clear debris from curbs and sidewalks in an area long a target of complaints about litter.

The organization, founded by Xavier Palacios and Ed Perez, has several plans to bring events and services to the area. The group worked for three hours, between the and 10th Street.

Perez said the group found the streets a little cleaner Saturday than they were at last year's cleanup and that the organization is working with the Huntington Station Business Improvement District and local businesses.
