Whitman Boys Basketball to Face Jericho

St. Dominic's edges Wildcats in first round of Gugliotta tournament.

Whitman's boys' basketball team will square off against Jericho Thursday in the second round of the 22nd annual Frank Gugliotta Basketball Tournament.

St. Dominic's came away with  a 66-65 overtime victory Tuesday in a hard-fought battle against tournament hosts Whitman.

Whitman had at times led by double digits in the first half, but St. Dominic's came out in the second half scoring and played very aggressive defense.

Whitman tied the game as regulation time expired with the score knotted at 56. In overtime both teams went shot for shot, with St. Dominic's getting the last basket to go up by one as time expired. 

St. Dominic's was led by Darren Chew with 17 points, and Tim Divietri with 16. Whitman was led by 6'5" senior center Myles Jones with 21 points, senior guard Daniel Guardado posted 13 points, and junior Darrell Felder ended with 12 points.

In Tuesday's first round, Brentwood's Kwashon McCastell had 10 points to lead his team in a 55-37 win over Jericho.  Sylvestor Lubin, a Brentwood senior guard added 7 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Jericho's senior forward Jonathan Orr scored 9 points. 

 Whitman will play against Jericho at 5 p.m. and the championship game at 7 p.m. will have Brentwood against St. Dominic's.
