Whitman Preps for Miles for Michael Race
Fun Run and 5k Race Raises Funds for Art and Music Programs in South Huntington
The third annual Miles for Michael Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run kicks off Saturday at Walt Whitman High School.
Proceeds from the race will support the arts/dance and music programs in the South Huntington School District.
The fun run will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5k race at 9 a.m. The US Track and Field-certified run will begin on West Hills Road in front of the high school and follows a course through neighboring streets before returning to the schools.

Parents, staff and others hosted a pasta dinner Friday night, while student musicians played nearby and others handed out race packets.
The race will be timed and managed by Start2 Finish Corporation. The well-known and entertaining announcer Terry Bisogno will be calling the race.

The South Huntington Educational Foundation event is named for Michael Gallagher, who graduated from Walt Whitman High School in June 2012. After a two-year fight, he lost his battle with cancer in 2014.
