Woman Airlifted Following 3-Car Crash In Cold Spring Harbor

BREAKING: A child who exited from the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived was also hospitalized.

A woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital after she was rescued from an overturned vehicle in Cold Spring Harbor on Monday afternoon.

According to fire officials, the Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department responded to a three-vehicle crash involving an SUV that overturned on its side, trapping a woman inside, on Main Street, near the Whaling Museum, at 3:30 p.m.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and used heavy rescue cutting tools to remove the roof and free the woman. She was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital by the Suffolk Police Medevac helicopter that landed nearby at Goose Hill Primary School.

A child who exited the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived was also transported to Huntington Hospital.

About 20 firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the scene with an ambulance, heavy rescue truck, fire police and paramedic unit. An engine was also dispatched to secure the helicopter landing zone at the school. All units were under the direction of First Assistant Chief Justin Armbruster.
