ISLIP, NY — An Islip man was arrested after police said he stole money from two Pennsylvania residents’ bank accounts and deposited the funds into a Coinbase account.
Chancellor McKee, 22, of Islip, was charged with third-degree grand larceny, Suffolk County police said.
After falling victim to a phone scam, two Pennsylvania residents had $2,500 and $4,500 separately removed from their bank accounts and transferred on Nov. 12, 2025, into McKee’s Coinbase account, police said.
Coinbase is a cryptocurrency exchange.
The money was then transferred into other accounts belonging to McKee, police said. McKee withdrew the money on Nov. 23 from an ATM on Main Street in East Islip, police said.
Following an investigation by Financial Crimes Unit detectives, McKee was arrested and held overnight at the Third Precinct, police said.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
