The pause aligns with a statewide rethink of data centers and leaves locals wondering what rules will follow once the moratorium expires.
3. Bellport Woman Admits Sex Trafficking Girl, 14, In Exchange For Crack: Authorities (dailyvoice.com) — A missing 14‑year‑old girl was ultimately found on a boat docked at an Islip marina after being trafficked and abused across several Suffolk communities, authorities said. A Bellport woman has now admitted key charges and faces a lengthy prison term, while another defendant tied to the case is due back in court soon.
4. Pro Soccer Coming To Long Island, With World Cup Champion Helping Lead Club (patch.com) — A new professional men's soccer team is coming to Long Island, backed in part by SUSA FC's Central Islip–based founder Glenn Schneider, and plans to start play at Hofstra in 2028. Organizers say they'll involve local families and youth clubs across the Island in shaping the club's identity, and hope to create a clear pathway from local fields to the professional game.
