ISLIP, NY — Suffolk County health officials are advising against swimming at seven beaches across the Town of Islip following heavy rainfall.
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services said bacteria levels at the affected beaches could exceed New York State standards because of stormwater runoff.
The affected beaches are:
Health officials recommend suspending swimming and other water contact until the waters have been flushed by two successive tidal cycles, or at least 24 hours after the rain ends.
The advisory is expected to be lifted Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 a.m.
