• 2 Firefighters Treated After Blaze At Islip Shipyard: FD (patch.com) — A two-alarm fire at Winter Bros Shipyard on Athasca Road drew a massive response from Islip and neighboring fire departments, including marine units along the canal. Two firefighters were treated and released, the building was empty, and hazmat, state environmental officials, and the Coast Guard were called over concerns about fuel and chemical runoff while arson investigators probe the cause.
   

• New Air Carrier, RetrievAir, Flew Into Long Island MacArthur, Clearing Path For Passengers And Their Pets (patch.com) — If you fly out of Long Island Islip MacArthur Airport, you can now book flights where your pet rides beside you in the cabin through a new carrier called RetrievAir. The service currently offers nonstop trips to Chicago and the D.C. area, with Fort Lauderdale flights for pet owners opening in November.
   

• Nordstrom Rack in Bay Shore reopens after temporary closure (newsday.com) — Bay Shore shoppers will again find the Nordstrom Rack at Gardiner Manor Mall open after a brief, unexplained closure that may have involved a water main repair permitted by the Town of Islip. Town officials and the mall's landlord have not yet detailed what caused the shutdown, but the 24,000-square-foot discount store is operating again.
