1. Vehicle bursts into flames on Southern State Parkway in Islip (dailydispatch.com) — A Ford Mustang burst into flames late Sunday on the Southern State Parkway in Islip, drawing a quick response from the Islip Fire Department and New York State Police. Firefighters extinguished the blaze near the Islip Avenue ramp after the unlicensed 21-year-old driver from Central Islip pulled over and got out safely, though he was ticketed at the scene.
   

2. Suffolk County: Rabid Raccoons Reported in Northport and Islip (longisland.com) — Health officials have confirmed that a raccoon found outside an Islip residence on September 3 tested positive for rabies, adding to a growing number of cases in Suffolk County. While no people or pets were reported exposed, residents in Islip and nearby communities are urged to avoid handling wildlife and to report sick-acting raccoons to police or state environmental officers immediately.
   

3. Islip Town Board bans large-scale battery storage projects (news12.com) — Islip residents should know the Town Board has now permanently banned large-scale battery energy storage facilities, halting a proposed Hauppauge project under current rules. After hearing safety concerns from firefighters and neighbors, as well as arguments from renewable-energy advocates and the developer, the board voted unanimously for an indefinite ban that could affect future grid and energy projects.
   

4. Seven More Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus in Suffolk County (town.news) — Mosquitoes in Islip and nearby communities have tested positive for West Nile virus, and one of Suffolk County's two human cases lives in the Town of Islip. County health officials urge residents to keep using repellent, eliminate standing water, maintain window screens, and report dead birds or mosquito problems to help track and reduce the virus' spread.
   

5. Sept. 11th memorial in Veterans Memorial Park (trihamletnews.com) — Islip residents gathered at Veterans Memorial Park for a solemn 9/11 ceremony honoring those lost, including sons and daughters of Islip. With prayers, music, flags at half-mast, and town leaders reading names, the community came together once again to remember the tragedy 25 years later and reaffirm a shared promise to never forget.
