• Islip Town places ban on battery energy storage systems (trihamletnews.com) — Islip Town has officially banned large-scale Tier 3 battery energy storage systems, with the Town Board voting 5-0 on Sept. 15 to block such facilities, including a proposed Hauppauge project. Officials cited safety concerns raised by fire officials about lithium battery fires, and residents can hear what's next when the board meets again on Oct. 20.
   

• Rabies Cases Prompt Nationwide Health Advisory: What Long Island Residents Should Know (patch.com) — Rabies has now been confirmed in multiple Suffolk communities, including Islip, as part of a wider resurgence that's brought 27 cases this year and 46 since early 2025. Local readers are urged to know which animals pose risks, what to do after a bite or scratch, and how prompt treatment can prevent this almost always fatal disease.
