Their joint letter to Gov. Hochul seeks flexibility so towns like Islip can cover rising pension, health, and waste-management costs without overburdening homeowners while still maintaining essential services.
2. TRAVEL ADVISORY: Overnight Closures on Westbound Sunrise Highway in the Town of Islip, Suffolk County (longisland.com) — If you're driving westbound on Sunrise Highway in the Town of Islip, expect an overnight closure at Exit 43 this Thursday, Oct. 8, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be briefly detoured along the North Service Road while crews complete pavement maintenance, so plan extra time and use caution near highway workers.
3. LI Driver Arrested After Fatal Lindenhurst Hit-And-Run: Police (patch.com) — A pedestrian died after being struck in an early-morning hit-and-run on Sunrise Highway in nearby Lindenhurst, and the driver was later arrested at his Brentwood home, police said. The victim was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, and the suspect is set to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip, key hubs for Islip-area residents.
4. Central Islip-Raised Filmmaker Wins Award For Long Island Hip-Hop Documentary (patch.com) — A Central Islip–raised filmmaker has won the Long Island Filmmaker Award for a documentary spotlighting underground hip-hop pioneers from Nassau and Suffolk counties. His film preserves stories of neighborhood DJs and MCs, including Central Islip group JVC FORCE, aiming to help younger Long Islanders recognize and take pride in their local musical roots.
