Beloved Bay Shore 'Bicycle Lady' Honored By Town of Islip

NORTH BAY SHORE, NY — A North Bay Shore resident is being recognized for her community dedication over the past six decades.

Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter recently honored Margot Pregitzer, affectionally referred to as the “bicycle lady", for her extraordinary and positive neighborly behavior.

She can be spotted daily riding around the community picking up litter, walking the neighborhood with a broom in hand, returning garbage bins to the property of their owners and placing flowers on her neighbors' doorsteps, a release from town officials said.

"Perhaps most neighborly of all, she has even been known to stop by with plates of freshly baked cookies," town officials said.

In addition to personally ensuring the cleanliness of her neighborhood, Margot has fostered many relationships with local agencies to continue the upkeep of her community. Seen by many as the neighborhood watch keeper, her efforts have not been unnoticed by her neighbors, who recommended that she be recognized.

“Margot is an extraordinary woman who understands that a community is built by more than just paved streets and primped lawns, but is instead built person-to-person, neighbor-to-neighbor, with kindness, love and respect,” said Carpenter. “If only we all had neighbors like Margot."
