New headstone dedication for Civil War and World War I Veterans

On Saturday October 4 th , 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Sayville, N.Y., the Moses A. Baldwin Camp #544 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will honor three Civil War veterans and two World War I veterans by unveiling and dedicating five new headstones obtained from the Veterans Administration for these previously unrecognized soldiers buried there. The Camp will also honor Private Thomas Griffin, the last Union veteran to be buried in Suffolk County and whose grandson, the late Thomas Griffin, served as a member of the Moses A. Baldwin Camp. Pamela Griffin Hansen, daughter of the late Mr. Griffin, will speak of her veteran ancestor and her father. The Islip Town Historian and SUVCW member GeorgeMunkenbeck will officiate.
