Police ID Driver Killed Southern State Crash
The driver crashed into the woods on Thursday morning.

ISLIP TERRACE, NY - A Center Moriches man died after crashing his car into the woods off the Southern State Parkway Thursday morning, according to State Police.
Police responded to the crash on the westbound Southern State west of Sunrise Highway at about 6:47 a.m.
An investigation revealed that 54-year-old John Palumbo was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue westbound in the center lane of the parkway.

The Nissan then veered from the center lane, exited the roadway and mounted the right shoulder, where it struck a sign post, in addition to multiple trees, police said.
Palumbo was pronounced dead at the scene. The parkway was closed for about three hours following the crash.
