Explosive Powders Found in Long Island Home Had Potential to Cause Major Damage: Cops
BREAKING: A 26-year-old man was arrested after police searched his home and turned up fireworks and drugs, police say.
EAST ISLIP, NY β A 26-year-old man had explosive powders in his East Islip home that had the potential to cause a powerful explosions resulting in substantial personal injury and property damage, Suffolk Police said.
In response to numerous 911 complaints and Crime Stoppers tips, Third Precinct Crime Section officers, Criminal Intelligence detectives, a bomb expert from The Joint Terrorist Task Force and Suffolk County Probation responded to 155 Connetquot Ave. on Jan. 25 to conduct an investigation, police said.
A search of Anthony Chiuchioloβs bedroom was conducted and illegal fireworks, along with a duffle bag containing explosive powders and blasting caps, were located, police said. Suffolk County Arson Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were then called to the scene to assist in the investigation and to secure the area, police said.

Chiuchiolo is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of fireworks and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police did not identify the controlled substance.
Chiuchiolo was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
